Tilehurst Methodist Church
Eco Church
Caring for Creation is central to our Christian faith and daily life at Tilehurst Methodist Church. We are proud to hold the Silver Eco Church Award through the national A Rocha scheme. While the Gold Award currently feels some way off, we are building on our achievements so far, and always looking for new ways to make our church's impact on the natural environment a positive one.
Our commitment to environmental sustainability spans every aspect of church life:
- Worship & Teaching: Regularly integrating creation care, prayers, and reflection into our worship and dedicated Eco Church services, including outdoor worship.
- Lifestyle & Community: Committing to Fairtrade products and encouraging personal lifestyle choices and carbon footprint awareness across our congregation. We're working with other local Eco Churches to share ideas and plan events together.
- Property & Grounds: Managing our buildings and land responsibly to reduce energy use, lower carbon emissions, and foster local biodiversity.
Upcoming activities
We have an annual plant swap in late spring. This is a community event in front of our church building. We welcome anyone to bring plants along or take away plants, or both - as well as having a chat over cake and a hot drink.
We're currently planning our next outdoor service, which we're hoping will involve a litter pick by the Thames.
